When Music Artists announce the release date of a single, EP, LP, or an album, anticipation is built, music appetites are left salivating, then boom! The date is postponed! ‘Who does that!!!”
Well, this is not a novel activity in the music industry worldwide and the Nigerian music industry has ineludibly had its share of album releases put over, while the eagerness of fans yet stays undwindling, awaiting further updates.
Let’s check out 5 notable moments of album release extension done by Nigerian artists :
1. Tems – Born in the Wild (Originally scheduled for, sometime in May, Postponed to June 7)
Tems announced her debut album, Born in the Wild, sometime in May 2024. However, in the early hours of May 10th 2024, Tems took to her X page and made a tweet announcing a new release date
2. Reminisce – Alaye To Shey Gogo (Originally scheduled for September 29, postponed to October 27 2022)
Reminisce’s sixth studio album, Alaye To Shey Gogo, was initially set for release on September 29. However, he announced a delay, shifting the release date to October 27. Despite the previous delay, Reminisce promised the audience an exceptional experience on the album.
3. Wizkid – More Love Less Ego (Originally scheduled for November 4, postponed to November 11, 2022)
Wizkid’s highly anticipated album, More Love Less Ego, was initially set for release on November 4. However, he postponed by a week to November 11, some speculated the delay was due to the passing of Davido’s son, Ifeanyi. This isn’t the first time Wizkid has delayed an album release for noble causes; the postponement of Made in Lagos during the #EndSARS protests in 2020 attests to this.
4. Olamide – Baddest Guy Ever Liveth (Originally scheduled for October 13, 2013, postponed to November 7, 2013)
Out of loyalty and respect, Olamide postponed the release of his album “Baddest Guy Ever Liveth” from October 13 to November 7, 2013. Through a post on his Twitter account (now X), Olamide officially announced the postponement, citing his respect for Samklef as the reason behind this decision.
5. Wande Coal – Legend or No Legend (Originally scheduled for March 31, postponed to April 7, 2023)
Wande Coal’s album, Legend or No Legend, was initially set for a March 31 release. However, he delayed it by a week to April 7, 2023, allegedly out of respect to Davido, who announced and scheduled his release for the same day.
