ADEOLUWA, the rising Afrofusion sensation from Saskatchewan, has been nominated as Afrobeats Artist of the Year at the prestigious Saskatchewan Music Awards. The category, celebrating the rich diversity of musical genres in the province, is being introduced this year, recognizing the growing influence of Afrobeats in the Saskatchewan music scene.
ADEOLUWA is nominated alongside other talented artists in the Afrobeats category, including Rooky, Adeola, Jemo, and Emanali.
Speaking about the nomination, ADEOLUWA expressed his gratitude, saying, “It’s a privilege to be one of the nominees of the inaugural Afrobeats category at the SaskMusic awards. It’s not often that you get to be part of history, so this means a lot to me because it shows just how far authenticity and tenacity can bring you.”
He congratulated his fellow nominees, recognizing the moment’s significance for their shared culture. “Congratulations to my fellow nominees as well! This is a moment for our culture, so we are all winners!”
Lorena Kelly, the executive director of SaskMusic, emphasised the importance of the awards in the current context, stating, “The awards allow us to applaud the great music produced in our province and gather together for a beautiful event. The live music industry is still struggling to recover from the setbacks of the pandemic, so we must take time to celebrate and acknowledge the many successes we’ve achieved.”
Expressing gratitude to SaskMusic for the recognition, ADEOLUWA remarked, “Thanks to SaskMusic for recognizing our work and giving us this platform; it means everything.”
ADEOLUWA’s nomination comes on the heels of a remarkable year for the artist, including two performances at the prestigious BreakOut West Music Showcase in Kelowna, British Columbia.
His track “Hallucinate” has gained recognition by being featured on Spotify Africa’s “New Music Friday Naija” and Exclaims “The Eh! List.” Additionally, “Let Me Know” has been showcased on Exclaim’s “The Eh! List” and various other publications.
Looking ahead, ADEOLUWA is set to release his highly anticipated EP, “King Of Detours,” early next year, promising fans an immersive experience into his unique Afrofusion sound.
The Saskatchewan Music Awards ceremony is scheduled to take place on December 2, 2023, at Saskatoon’s Broadway Theatre, promising an unforgettable evening of celebration and acknowledgment of the province’s diverse musical talents.
