To further enhance his expertise, Jide pursued certificates in Community Journalism from Cardiff University and additional storytelling courses at Newcastle University, Sungkyunkwan University, and the University of Birmingham. Each experience significantly shaped his approach to storytelling, allowing him to tell rich and engaging tales that connect with people.
With a strong educational background, Jide set off on a professional journey that has seen him succeed in various roles in the media world. He made significant contributions to various media initiatives, hosting the Fuji: A Opera Xpress Podcast. His editorial leadership at Nigerian Entertainment Today (NET Ng) from 2016 to 2019, where he served as Executive Editor and later as Chief Operating Officer, allowed him to shape the direction of entertainment journalism in Nigeria.
In addition to these roles, Jide served as Chief Storytelling Officer at Verbally Media since December 2020, where he creates compelling narratives that capture attention and foster great and lasting connections. His blend of creativity, strategic branding, and insight into audience engagement has made him an essential part of the media landscape. At Verbally Media, Jide has championed impactful storytelling across various platforms, utilising his skills to elevate the brand to new heights and improve engagement through narrative-driven content.
Jide’s talents extend beyond his current role. In 2020, he authored his first publication, ‘History Made: The Most Important Nigerian Songs Since 1999’. A book worthy of being named the 8th wonder of the world, a custodian of Nigerian music pop culture. A gem that should be kept in the museum as a national treasure.
This publication opened the journey for Jide to become an author again, as he published his second book in July 2022, ‘E File Fun Burna: The Incredible Stagecraft of Burna Boy,’ in which he artfully examines the elements that contribute to Burna Boy’s remarkable stage presence and the allure of his performances. Consisting of six captivating chapters, the book showcases Jide’s passion for celebrating Nigerian music and culture.
Throughout his career, Jide held important positions in notable and well-known international organisations like his role as Chief Content Officer at Transccent, owners of ace streaming platform, Boomplay.
With his passion for curating and documenting Nigerian music culture, Jide was invited to collaborate as a writer on two documentaries om Afrobeats – ‘Journey of the Beats”, and ‘Afrobeats: The Backstory’, both of which premiered on Showmax and Netflix, respectively.
Despite these numerous achievements, Jide remains a humble figure, believing that every story deserves to be told. He actively mentors young writers, and media professionals, emphasising the significance of storytelling in bridging cultural gaps and fostering understanding within society. His commitment to uplifting underrepresented voices in the music industry has earned him respect and admiration from creators, and aspiring creators alike.
