I’m writing this on my way to the village—where Sporty sent me after my fellow football fans and I decided to invest in midweek games. I believe I will find the love of my life there. For those of you in my shoes, searching for a partner (whether in the village or the city) before February 14, here are a few places to try:
1. The Airport:
The title of this article might make it seem like these are just temporary solutions for the single and searching, but who knows? A chance encounter could lead to something more than just a Valentine’s date. Just start hanging around airports and look for people with blue passports or Green Cards—shoot your shot and see where it leads.
2. Gym:
Remember how you promised yourself you’d start going to the gym at the beginning of the year? Well, whatever reason you had for making that resolution, here’s an extra incentive. Fitness centres are full of potential partners.
3. Try a Colleague:
All you do is sit at home and binge-watch series, but when you see office romances (like Mike & Rachel in Suits), you start wishing for one of your own. Maybe it’s time to make it happen. Pick a colleague, compliment them, engage in small talk, and ask if they’d like to spend Valentine’s Day with you.
4. Rekindle Something with an Ex
As Uncle Samuel used to say, “The devil you know is better than the angel you don’t know.” If finding someone new proves difficult, consider reaching out to the last person who broke your heart. By now, you should have built enough emotional resistance to handle whatever happens next.
5. Visit Computer Village:
Almost everyone has been to Computer Village at some point, so chances are you’ll find someone there. Dress nicely, take some extra cash, and visit a shop to buy a charger or an earpiece. While testing your purchase, just wait—within 30 minutes, a damsel in distress will likely walk in, needing help with her gadget. Find a way to start a conversation and take it from there.
6. Take Someone’s Partner:
Don’t let that thing called marriage stop you from finding a Valentine. In fact, this is the one I plan to try. I’ll look for a woman whose husband is always away—maybe he’s abroad or in the military—and shoot my shot. High risk, high reward.
